Colt Starting Certification

Prerequisite: Foundations Certification

This certification is for those who intend to specialize in colt starting or integrate colt starting into their training programs. By completing this certification, trainers establish a solid framework to help young horses reach their potential while enhancing their professional expertise and service offerings.

  • No. Completion of the Certification Program does not authorize you to represent yourself as an official Phil Haugen Horsemanship trainer. Instead, the certification is designed to elevate the value of your training program by providing recognition of your personal development and commitment to foundational horsemanship as taught through Phil’s mentorship and certification framework.

  • Each Certification Level requires a set number of supervised hours of instruction and application where trainers will work alongside Phil to gain real-world experience in the equine industry. In addition to completing the instructional requirements of each certification level, trainers must also:

    • Exhibit proficiency in foundational horsemanship skills and philosophies

    • Embody values of hard work, resilience, discipline, and a commitment to perpetual learning

    • Demonstrate passion and understanding for developing a horse’s potential

    • Exhibit professionalism, strong ethics, integrity, and respect toward clients and horses

  • To be eligible to begin the Certification process, you must have completed at least one Mentorship Week with Phil Haugen.     • Demonstrated consistency in foundational training practices

    • Strong communication and horsemanship ethics
