Ep 77: Enhancing Effort and Potential

Be-Your-Best_Ep77.jpg

Horsemanship is all about developing the potential of the animal underneath you.

Not all horses are created equal. Some horses are better suited to excel at certain disciplines more than others. Great horsemanship cannot overcome genetic makeup. It cannot turn a decent horse into a phenomenal horse. But, it can unlock the full potential of that unique animal.

Unlocking a horse’s full potential begins with teaching a few basic principles. One of these is the concept of effort.

I believe that effort is a learned response. And, I believe this principle holds true for both horses and people.

While some people and horses naturally give more effort than others, the amount of effort put forth always has a direct relationship to the expectations that have been set.

It is easy to wake up every morning and talk yourself out of doing the things that are uncomfortable or difficult. Those who are willing to put forth the effort and make themselves uncomfortable are the ones who I admire. And, luckily, I find myself surrounded by more and more of these people everyday.

As I travel to different clinics across the country, the level of skill and work ethic displayed by both the horses and trainers continues to impress me. I am very blessed to be part of an industry where people hold themselves to such high standards.

The shared commitment to “being your best” is a theme that always seems to work its way into this podcast. It’s the idea that grounds us in our goals and pushes us to strive for more. And, it’s the reason we continue to share our experiences with you each week.

Tune into this episode as we share some recent experiences from our 2021 clinic series!
