Ep 54: Overcoming the Pressure to Prove Yourself

One of the biggest limiting factors to success is the feeling of needing to prove yourself to others.

When we are in the public eye, it is common to feel added pressure to perform well. This extra pressure we put on ourselves when we are in the public eye causes self doubt, which causes us to stray away from our game plan.

Especially if you’ve experienced success in the past, it is easy to feel like there is a higher level of pressure for you to perform well. Most of the time, that expectation is in your own head. You have complete control over the pressure you inflict on yourself.

A big part of progress is the ability to stop worrying about what other people think. If you are working hard and you have done your preparation, the only person you have to answer to is yourself.

Focus on preparation over perfection. If your self-worth is dependent upon on perfectionism, you will be disappointed a lot. It is good to strive for perfection, but do not be disappointed if you fall short of perfection. None of us are perfect, so let go of that standard for yourself.

Even if you’ve achieved a high level before, understand that there will be peaks and valleys in your horsemanship journey. During those times when you’re in a valley, be expectant of good things to come your way in the future. Continue working hard and continue preparing yourself for victory. Your moment of success is coming soon.
