Ep 112: Appreciating Each Opportunity

I just got back from the World Series of Team Roping in Las Vegas, and during this trip, I did a lot of reflecting about the opportunities that I was presented with this week.

While the outcome of the roping wasn’t exactly what I had planned, I found myself feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity just to be there. I felt grateful for the chance to be part of the growth of the sport, and to be surrounded by so many hard working, humble individuals.

In the performance horse industry, the opportunities keep getting greater and greater for horse owners, trainers and competitors. But just as opportunities keep coming up, opportunities can just as easily be taken away.

There are a lot of risks that come with this line of work, both physical and financial. As horse owners and trainers, it is imperative that we train ourselves to appreciate the small things and the ‘not so fun’ things along the way.

Appreciate the opportunity to get up early and drive to the next rodeo or jackpot. Appreciate each time you unload your horse from the trailer safely. Appreciate each time you exit the arena with no injuries to yourself or your horse.

Even when the competitive outcomes aren’t what you expected, never take the opportunity for granted.
